Mike Love, of the iconic band The Beach Boys, took a break from his book tour to meet with staff at Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, show his support and learn more about the organization’s efforts in healing the invisible wounds for Post-9/11 Veterans, Service Members and their Families. On Monday, November, 7, Love and the rest of the band will be back in town to share some good vibrations with Home Base supporters and music lovers at Home Base’s 4th annual Mission: Gratitudebenefit concert at Agganis Arena. Of all the concerts The Beach Boys have played this year, Love says Mission: Gratitude will be one of his most memorable yet.
“As a band, we hear so many stories of how much our music has meant not only to Veterans and Service Members during their deployment, but also their Families back home,” said Mike Love, lead singer and founding member of The Beach Boys. “We don’t have many opportunities to thank our brothers and sisters who have done so much to protect our freedom. We are honored to lend our voices to Mission: Gratitude and support an organization transforming the lives of our 21st century Veterans coming home.”
Mission: Gratitude is New England’s largest benefit concert, honoring the sacrifices made daily by Service Members and their Families. All proceeds from the event directly fund Home Base’s efforts in healing the Invisible Wounds of War for Service Members, Post-9/11 Veterans and their Families affected by combat or deployment-related stress. This year’s event will also feature Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Kyle White as guest speaker.
“When these brave Warriors return, many of them hit a point where they don’t see a way of out – they feel hopeless. We are here to offer them some hope,” says Brig. Gen. (ret.) Jack Hammond, Executive Director, Home Base. “Our ability to deliver on the promise of world-class care is dependent on the thousands of individual donors and supporting organizations who have supported us from the beginning and continue to do so.”
On the heels of Mission: Gratitude, Home Base will air a special Veterans Day Telethon, featuring patient stories and information about how Home Base helps Military members and Families not only build a more resilient life, but thrive. Massachusetts viewers can tune into WCVB-TV, and for the first time, New Hampshire residents can watch the piece on WMUR-TV.
With 2.6 million Americans deployed since 9/11, 1 in 3 experiencing an Invisible Wound of War and a staggering 20 suicides a day, the need and urgency for awareness and care is great. This Veteran’s Day week, unite with Home Base to celebrate one night, one goal, one mission: gratitude.
